Dry Needling

Dry needling has been shown to be effective for treating  muscular (myofascial) pain.

What is myofascial pain (commonly known as muscular pain)?

Myofascial pain originates from a muscle or fascia (the connective tissue that surrounds muscles) and is usually associated with myofascial trigger points (MTrP).

A trigger point is a localised sensitive and taut band of skeletal muscle, which can refer pain to another area or present a muscle twitch when squeezed or stimulated.

Trigger points are very common and can lead to chronic pain if left untreated.

Dry needling can be an effective method to treat myofascial pain. During dry needling treatment an acupuncture needle is inserted directly into a trigger point, this has the effect of relaxing muscular spasm (associated with trigger points) and restoring normal muscle tone.

Dry needling is used worldwide, as a part of the complex treatment of chronic musculoskeletal pain.
